About Shell Thurso
Thurso is the most northerly mainland town in Britain and the largest settlement on Caithness's north coast. The Shell garage on Ormlie Road is one of the better-equipped fuel stops on the entire NC500, with AdBlue and good opening hours. Thurso has a Lidl, a Morrison's and various shops — an excellent resupply point. The town is also the ferry terminal for Orkney, and John o' Groats is just 20 miles east.

⚠️ NC500 Fuel Warning: Fuel stations on the North Coast 500 can be very far apart, especially on the west and north coasts. Some stretches exceed 50 miles with no fuel available. Many stations close early and are not open on Sundays. Always fill up when you can — do not wait until the low-fuel warning light appears.
